A famous train chugged into green country today and made a stop in Claremore. Union Pacific railroad's historic steam locomotive number 844 is in the home stretch of a 35-day, 10-state tour celebrating the railroad's history and heritage.
The tour began in Cheyenne, Wyoming in April and will return to Cheyenne on June first after visiting Missouri and Nebraska over the next few days.
The train was in Claremore through Saturday night and departed for Coffeyville, Kansas at 8 am Sunday morning.
A GPS transmitter installed on the train allows the public access to a map with the route of the locomotive. That map can be viewed using the keyword "steam" on the Union Pacific website. You can get there from our website kotv.com, just look in the links section.
