"Necessity is the mother of invention. And I've lived and worked in a number of countries where there was nothing but a big bucket of problems," said David Nuttle of Tahlequah.

From his little cabin in the woods, David is trying to save the planet. He may gain a new title in the process, the "Greenest Person On The Planet" in a competition started by 3rd Whale, an environmental group from Canada.

David says he isn't the greenest person on the planet, but he is a promoter of green technologies and an inventor of sustainable solutions to the problems facing the dozens of third world countries he has visited.

His non-profit corporation, Needful Provision, Inc. provides expertise to those in need around the world. His composting toilets, water purification systems, and agricultural improvements are allowing for a better life for the impoverished villages he visits.

"When you go into these villages that have no electricity, no sanitation, no potable water, the kids are dying from water-borne diseases, you give them potable water. It's an immediate solution. You put in a biogester so they can produce methane and have green electricity from the methane. Suddenly, they have light and a community center with maybe a TV," said Nettle.

His low-tech solutions are being adopted worldwide, partly because they require little energy input.
