DES MOINES, Iowa -- The Oklahoma City RedHawks dropped their third straight game to the Iowa Cubs 8-5 Wednesday.
Matt Brown came to the plate with the chance to play hero in the top of the ninth. The RedHawks trailed by three but had the bases loaded with two outs. However, Brown popped out in the infield to end the game.
The Cubs started off hot. Bobby Scales hit a solo home run to right field to start a four-run second inning for the Cubs. Iowa answered Oklahoma City’s two run third with a two-run homer by Micah Hoffpauir to take a 6-2 lead.
Both teams tallied two runs in their half of the seventh inning. Jarrod Saltalamacchia scored the RedHawks lone run in the top of the eighth.
Rich Harden (0-2) was tagged with the loss after giving up six earned runs in five innings.
Jeff Samardzija (7-1) allowed two runs (one earned) and was credited with the victory.
The two teams conclude their series at 7:05 p.m. Thursday.
