Willard Stone is an Oklahoma Hall of Fame Artist. His work is in galleries and museums all over the country.

Now, fans and collectors have a rare opportunity to own more of Willard Stone's work at a discounted rate.

The family is selling Willard Stone's widow's collection of bronzes to pay the cost of her Alzheimer's care.

The Willard Stone Museum is in Locust Grove. Willard stone died in 1985, so many of us are unfamiliar with his work.

Willard stone could coax the most wonderful images out of a block of wood. His son Jason is a pretty accomplished sculptor in is his own right.

Willard stone worked exclusively for Thomas Gilcrease for three years as artist-in-residence at the Gilcrease Museum. That got his full-time sculpting career going.

More than 35 bronzes belonging to Willard Stone's widow Sophie are being sold at a discounted rate. She has Alzheimer's and this sale will allow the family to more easily finance her long term care.

Many of those are in what is known as Sophie's "doghouse collection." Every married man can relate to the doghouse… yes?

"He would carve her a miniature as a peace offering. As you can see he was in trouble several times," Jason said.

Those plus some of the larger bronzes have all been discounted for this sale. It's a rare opportunity to acquire a piece of Oklahoma's art history.

There's a better look at and more information about the pieces which are for sale on a museum website. We've also created a web extra, showing more of the pieces in the Willard Stone Museum.
