Henderson's 22 Kills Lead Tulsa Volleyball To Four-Set Win

Tyler Henderson had 22 kills and Jessica Adams had 29 digs to propel Tulsa to a four-set win over Southern Mississippi.

Senior outside hitter Tyler Henderson slammed 22 kills, while senior libero Jessica Adams tallied 29 digs to power the Tulsa volleyball team to a four-set (21-25, 25-19, 25-8, 25-14) victory at Southern Miss Friday evening.

The Golden Hurricane (13-7, 6-0 Conference USA) won its fifth straight road game of the season and its fourth straight contest against Southern Miss (6-11, 2-3 C-USA). TU hit .222 with 55 kills and 75 digs, while Southern Miss hit .034 with 33 kills and 71 digs. Both the Golden Hurricane and Golden Eagles recorded 10 blocks on the night.

Senior setter Jordan Clampitt recorded her sixth double-double of the season as she paced the TU offense with 32 assists and pitched in 11 digs. Junior outside hitter Kellie Culbertson recorded 12 digs and eight kills, while freshman middle blocker Ashley Hooper added eight kills and five blocks. Sophomore middle blocker Carly Boatwright ended the night with seven kills.

The first set consisted of 11 ties and four lead changes as the Golden Eagles won the frame 25-21. USM hit .242, while TU held an attack percentage of .113.

Henderson came alive in the second set tallying seven kills to propel the Hurricane to a 25-19 victory.  Tulsa never trailed in the set and hit .227 in the stanza while holding Southern Miss to a .116 clip.

After the score was tied at one apiece in the third set, Tulsa went on a 13-2 run to make it a 14-3 game. During the run, TU tallied four blocks to stifle the Golden Eagles attack. Tulsa won the set 25-8 as the Hurricane held an attack percentage of .400, while Southern Miss hit -.182.

Tulsa jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the fourth set en route to a 25-14 victory to clinch the match. Henderson recorded seven of the kills in the frame, while Adams collected nine digs. The Tulsa defense held the Southern Miss offense to a -.056 attack clip.

Tulsa will finish its four game road swing on Sunday, October 7 with a noon matchup at UCF.
