The Cleveland County Sheriff's Office is warning people to beware of a scam that pushes parents to pay for child fingerprinting services.
The scam began just this week. The sheriff's office says someone calls parents and offers to fingerprint children for a charge. The caller then requests bank account information to pay for the fingerprints.
Cleveland County Sheriff Joe Lester says the caller has no association with Cleveland County. In fact, deputies will fingerprint kids for free, and will never solicit money for the service.
"If you have received one of these calls, please call the Cleveland County Sheriff's Office," Sheriff Lester said. "Should someone call, ask for your bank account information and offer child fingerprint services for a fee, hang up the phone and report it to the sheriff's office immediately."
Anyone with information about the fingerprint scam is urged to call (405) 701-8888, and report the information to deputies.
