Oklahomans Urged To Recycle, Prevent Grease Build-Up In City Pipes

The Metropolitan Environmental Trust said Tulsa sewers overflow about 45 times a year because of dumped grease.

The dinners are done, families are gone and leftovers are dwindling.

Now, the city of Tulsa is asking that you responsibly get rid of all the grease used to cook your Thanksgiving feast.

"Pretty much any kind of fatty food that wouldn't be good for your arteries, is the same kind of stuff that isn't good for our drains and our sewer system," environmental specialist Kristi Shreve said.

The Metropolitan Environmental Trust hosted "Trap the Grease" on Sunday.

It's a safe way to prevent all those oils from building up in pipes.

The group said Tulsa sewers overflow about 45 times a year because of dumped grease.

Anyone can bring liquid cooking oil to any Metropolitan Environmental Trust Recycling Center at any time during the year. For locations, click here.
