Brookside Boutique Offers Alternative To Mega-Gyms
TULSA, Oklahoma - The popularity of mega-gyms is evident all over Tulsa. But walking into a giant facility full of complicated machines and grunting body builders doesn't suit everyone.
A new local business might have the solution, and it's a drastic difference from the normal gym.
Physiques By Monique, on Brookside, offers one-on-one fitness training, by appointment.
"It's definitely a more personal experience," said Rhonda Shiflet, who came in for a session with personal trainer Monique Washington.
Shiflet has three kids, and she said it's too easy to find a reason not to go to the gym, so making the appointment helps keep her on track.
"It's time I have set aside for me," she said.
If you are more motivated by a class, Physiques By Monique also has a spin class, but it's one with a view of something other than just the person in front of you. The bikes face a window overlooking Brookside.
"It's easy to get lost in a big gym," Washington said.
She said she started her business with the dream of making a fitness center that wasn't so intimidating. Smaller, more intimate studios have had success in other cities, so Washington brought one to Tulsa.
"I train couples at one time or best friends that want to come in and get a workout in on a lunch break," Washington said.
Whether it's a single or couple session or a small class, it's fitness by appointment, which could be the secret to success for some people.
"You stay motivated when you have a dedicated appointment," Washington said.
