Voters In Northeast Oklahoma To Decide Issues Tuesday

Oklahomans go to the polls on Tuesday, May 14, 2013 to decide a number of issues, including school bonds and sales tax increases.

In Tulsa, residents will be voting on a "Smart and Secure Schools" bond issue. The $38,000,000 bond would pay for new technology, mainly computers and software. The "safety" part of the bond would update and standardize security equipment at schools.

Some voters in Tulsa County will also decide the fate of a $1,000,000 bond issue to pay for constructing and remodeling buildings in the Glenpool school district.

In Craig County, voters will have their say on extending a 1% sales tax for five years, with the money going to fund roads, as well as ambulance service, law enforcement and general operations.

The Wister school district is asking voters to approve a $450,000 bond for building construction.

Salina Public Schools wants voters to approve a bond issue for $1,370,000 for building construction.

Voters in Muskogee County will decide two bond issues for Muskogee Public Schools. Proposition 1 would raise $47,440,000 for building construction, while Proposition 2 would raise $2,065,000 for transportation and to cover the costs of the bond issues.

Nowata County voters have five issues to decide, including:

1% sales tax

Proposition 1: requirements for City of Nowata commissioners

Proposition 2: City of Nowata nepotism rules

Proposition 3: City of Nowata recall rules

Proposition 4: City of Nowata meeting rules

Some Pawnee County voters will cast ballots on a bond issue for Morrison Schools that would raise $9,340,000 for building construction.

In Pittsburg County, voters in McAlester will decide if money raised by the current 1% sales tax can be used to pay down debt as approved by citizens.

In Rogers County, voters will consider renewing a one-percent sales tax for another five years. The money would continue to pay for roads and bridges.

And voters in Gore in Sequoyah County will decide whether to add a new 1% sales tax that would fund capital improvements.
