Tulsa Man Hopes Surveillance Video Sinks Golf Club Thief
TULSA, Oklahoma - In a matter of seconds, a thief took a golf bag and the clubs inside of it right off the owner's driveway; the whole thing was caught on tape.
The whole thing was caught on tape and the victim hopes someone recognizes the thief.
Michael Potts said he was either targeted leaving the golf course or the crook just saw an opportunity.
The surveillance video shows the thief quickly walk away with a Callaway golf bag with Potts' name monogrammed on the side.
"I thought, ‘how could someone be that brave?' I mean I just can't imagine, in broad daylight, we have walkers and people going by all the time and he felt as though he could walk up here," Potts said.
He said he got dropped off in his driveway after an afternoon of golfing with friends and made a major mistake.
"I set my clubs here by the front door, I go inside just a few minutes and I think, ‘I better get those they might get stolen,'" said Potts.
That's exactly what happened.
Video shows a white SUV first drives by his house. Then, within a few seconds, the SUV pulled back. The thief then walked up to the driveway – wearing a backwards hat, sweatpants and athletic or golf shoes.
The man goes off camera and comes back on carrying Potts' golf bag.
"It was a bright white bag, and if he knows anything about golf he knows it was a decent set and they had some value, and he was right," Potts said.
The crook got away with more than $1,500 worth of clubs, shoes, a range finder and more.
"I actually got it for Christmas, I hadn't even used it yet," he said.
While the bag caught the thief's eye, he missed the camera above the garage, now Potts hopes it'll lead him back to his golf bag.
"That's what I want, someone to recognize him. I want my stuff back and I'd love to make sure he doesn't do this to somebody else," he said.
Potts said he first installed the cameras about a year ago after a thief stole a package off his door step.
If you recognize the man in the video you can call Crime Stoppers at 918-596-COPS.
