Police said a driver was texting when he drove his SUV off a bridge under construction early Friday.
Officers said the crash happened in the 4100 block of North Peoria at about 2 a.m.
They said the driver told them he was texting when he drove the SUV through a barricade and off the bridge, landing nose first in a ditch.
A construction crew arriving for work hours later found the wrecked SUV and called 911. Firefighters rescued the driver and EMSA took him to the hospital with a broken arm. Police said he was trapped and unable to use his phone to call for help.
Police said they hadn't decided whether to ticket the man.
