Six BA Businesses Ticketed For Selling Alcohol To Minors

With Independence Day fast approaching, it's bound to be a busy holiday weekend for local liquor stores.

Friday night, Broken Arrow police made sure everyone was following the law, making sure those stores don't sell to minors.

A group of kids under 21, working with the Broken Arrow Police Department, visited all the businesses that sell alcohol and tried to buy some.

We found out some stores check ID but sold to the minors anyway, others didn't check at all.

First, we hit the stores police say have a history of selling to minors. This time around, however, The Rooster and The Rack both denied the underage buyers.

Sergeant Eric Nester said that's what he wants to see.

"We actually don't want people to sell,” he said. “We consider it to be a good operation if we go out and the kids get denied at every single store."

But that didn't happen.

Officers cited a bar called Martini's, inside the Clarion Hotel, for serving a beer and a mixed drink to a 16-year-old and a 20-year-old.

Employees there said they checked IDs, but not carefully enough.

"This is not a normal place that serves underage, I can tell you that,” one employee said.

Nester has been organizing alcohol compliance checks for years. Friday night’s check was made possible by the Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse and the Tulsa County Health Department, operating what's called the 2Much2Lose Task Force.

It's not always bars and liquor stores, BAPD checks everyone. Officers even cited the CVS at 121st and Elm.

I asked the employee if the minor showed him an ID, he said no and they usually don't ask for one.

In Friday night’s operation, minors made 63 attempts to buy alcohol – six businesses sold it to them and got tickets.
