By this time next year, it will be easier to drive through the heart of Jenks. The city broke ground Wednesday morning on a new widening project that will widen Main Street from Elm Street to Highway 75.

The project will expand the road from a two-land to a four-lane road and is scheduled to be completed in June 2018.

City leaders said the expansion will make Jenks streets safer and will also boost the economy.

"This is going to be great for businesses like mine and everyone else on this road because you are obviously going to be able to move freely to get wherever you need to go in the city of Jenks much faster," said Jenks Mayor Dr. Josh Wedman.

The city said the expansion of the road won't require the closing or demolition of any existing businesses.
