Lauren Chamberlain and Keilani Ricketts were once again stellar Thursday afternoon in Oklahoma's 5-1 tournament opening win over South Florida.
Chamberlain's two-run home run in the bottom of the fourth, combined with Ricketts 11 strike outs proved to be just too much for the Bulls to handle.
South Florida who made its first appearance in the WCWS took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth when Kourtney Salvarola connected on a double to score Courtney Goff.
Oklahoma answered in the bottom of the frame. Destinee Martinez started off with a single and one batter later came home when Chamberlain blasted her home run to left center taking a 2-1 advantage.
After a scoreless fifth inning, OU lit up the sixth highlighted by a double by Chamberlain and Ricketts' triple to left center. The Sooners added three runs that inning making it 5-1.
For the 23rd time this season, Ricketts struck out 10 or more. In her seven innings of service she allowed three hits and one run.
Oklahoma (51-8) moves into the winners bracket and will face top seeded Cal-Berkeley on Friday at 6 p.m. while South Florida will take on LSU on Saturday in the first elimination game.
