A busted pipe forced Langston University in Tulsa to cancel classes Monday.
A restoration company is already there with crews cleaning up inside. The pipe busted early Monday morning, flooding parts of Langston University's Tulsa campus.
The water line break sent ceiling tiles crashing to the ground and standing water is everywhere, including the computer lab, one of the busiest rooms in the building.
Still, the university is thankful it wasn't worse.
"The fire department did a great job of getting in there, shutting everything down ... all the electricity and everything's been shut off, so we don't have to fear any kind of fire damage or anything like that," said Assistant VP of Institution Advancement Marla Mayberry.
Tulsa Fire Department's code inspector says the pipe for the building's sprinkler system froze in the cold weather and burst sometime before 7 a.m.
“Most businesses that have sprinkler systems, it could happen or just frozen pipes anywhere,” said Assistant Fire Marshal Lorenzer Holmes. “Try to keep your pipes warm, try to keep your heat on. That's pretty much how we suggest to keep your system safe.”
The university's facility team says this is the third time in three years a busted pipe has caused the building to flood and they hope this time is the last.
At this point, Langston University isn't sure when classes will resume at the Tulsa campus.
