Tulsa's U.S. Marshals are working new leads in a Sapulpa homicide case. They believe they're closing in on Damon Caldwell, who they say has been on the run for three years.
Officers Search For Suspect In Sapulpa Homicide
Someone shot and killed Michael Norwood at the "Rest Inn" on I-44 West of Tulsa. Deputies believed there might have been a drug deal going on and the suspect was identified as Damon Caldwell.
That was August 2015 and Caldwell was never caught.
"He was a felon before he did this crime, in fact, he was just gotten out of prison in 2015 before he did this homicide,” said U.S. Marshal John Gage.
Caldwell already had a long record of crime and prison time dating back to 2000. But the homicide was the most serious crime and why years later US Marshals are still after him.
“His gang connections have helped him hide out this long and we believe that's coming to an end and we've had some tips that's he’s in this area or the Edmond area and we've got some good solid tips to follow up on,” said Gage.
Caldwell was spotted near Enid once, but he got away from deputies there and he was in a police chase in El Reno.
Caldwell is 44 years old, and always wears glasses because of very poor eyesight. He usually has short hair, and authorities believe he's either in Sapulpa or Edmond.
Though the killing at the motel was more than three years ago, marshals say the leads, in this case, give them new hope of finding Caldwell.
“This one is a little longer than our average and we're not letting it go We'll find him,” said Gage.
Caldwell is wanted to answer for the homicide here and an armed robbery and burglary charge. He's still considered dangerous so anyone who spots him should call 911.
