The trial begins for a Tulsa man charged with murder after a police pursuit ended in a deadly head-on collision.

Police say 25-year-old Jerry Newman stole a utility truck in May of 2017 and led Sapulpa and Tulsa police officers and Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers on a lengthy chase.

On Wednesday, jurors were shown dash cam video that prosecutors say shows Newman leading officers on and off of the highway, and even onto active runways at Tulsa International Airport.

Officers testified that the chase ended when Newman got onto Highway 75 going the wrong direction and hit William Bruckman’s vehicle head-on, killing him.

Family and friends of Bruckman filled the courtroom Wednesday, at times becoming emotional when photos of the innocent driver at the crash scene were passed around the jury box.

Newman faces multiple charges, including first degree murder and leaving the scene of a deadly crash.

His attorneys have argued that there’s no proof he was the one driving the truck, but prosecutors say there’s video from inside the stolen truck that shows Newman behind the wheel.

Prosecutors also say the video show the moment Newman noticed the camera and destroyed it with a sledgehammer.
