A trooper is injured and a suspect is arrested after a shootout and chase near Woodward.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says a trooper attempted to stop a driver for a possible seat belt violation early Sunday morning, but the driver refused to stop.
They say the trooper followed the driver into a hotel parking lot off of Highway 183, where the driver began shooting at the trooper.
The trooper returned fire and the driver fled to a residence in Woodward, OHP says.
Troopers say OHP’s Tactical Team tried contacting the person, believing he was barricaded inside the residence. However, they later discovered that the person had fled from the residence.
Troopers, along with local law enforcement, began searching for the suspect and, they say, he was captured shortly before 9:30 a.m. Sunday.
OHP says a trooper was injured during these events and was flown to a hospital in Oklahoma City.
