A woman is on the run after Broken Arrow Police say she tried to break into another woman's home.
At one point, the homeowner fired shots at the intruder.
Police said the two women do not know each other but said the crime is not random. Police said the intruder was breaking into the house to try to take back property she believed was hers.
Rick Plantin is one of several people living in the neighborhood who was shocked to hear the sound of a police chopper.
"It's scary, it really is," said Plantin. "She said, ‘we've got the police in your neighborhood. Please stay inside your home’."
The TPD chopper was called in by Broken Arrow officers to help find a woman they said tried to break into a home.
"This was the result of some sort of transfer of property, the suspect had located the victim's residence and it's believed that the suspect arrived trying to get property back that she thought belonged to her," said Broken Arrow Officer James Koch.
Police said a woman was home when she heard a loud noise. She immediately called 911, picked up her gun and walked toward a broken window.
“[She]noticed that a window had been broken and saw a white female trying to get into the house, trying to gain entry into the house," said Officer Koch. "[The] homeowner fired shot in the direction of the suspect, its unknown whether the suspect was injured."
Despite officers searching the neighborhood and in the chopper, the intruder got away. Police know who she is but are not releasing her name yet.
“This was not a random event ... we don't have someone going around neighborhoods invading homes," said Koch.
Plantin said knowing the burglary isn't random does help him feel a little more peace but he still urges his neighbors to BE vigilant.
“It can happen in any neighborhood," he said.
Police said they don't expect the homeowner to be charged.
