Okmulgee Police now say an attempted robbery at a McDonald's is a hoax.
According to Okmulgee Police Chief Joe Prentice, the clerk that reported the robbery, Cassandra Brown, confessed to faking the robbery with three other individuals.
Brown was arrested along with Wilburt Lamon Rivers. Prentice said they were both booked on complaints of robbery. He said a juvenile has also been detained and that they are searching for a fourth person.
Originally, Okmulgee Police started investigating an attempted robbery that happened around 12:30 a.m. at the town’s McDonald’s. The department released surveillance photos on its Facebook page of one of the women who police said tried to help rob the fast food restaurant.
Prentice told News On 6 a man walked up to the drive-thru window and demanded money. Prentice said the man was holding what appeared to be a weapon wrapped in a towel.
The chief said two women were with the man.
Prentice said the clerk, Brown, told the attempted robbers she couldn’t give them any money. She then said, “so shoot me if you have to.” After that, Brown told police one of the women started screaming to give them the money.
The chief said when the manager walked over to the window, the man and two women all ran off. The sheriff sent out a follow-up release Monday afternoon that they determined the robbery was a hoax.
Prentice said the investigation is ongoing.
