Pockets of moderate to occasionally heavy rainfall will continue to move across the eastern Oklahoma region this morning through the midday period before shifting southward by afternoon and evening.  A flood watch is underway for a large portion of the area through 7 p.m.

Weather Alerts

A cold front will move southward this morning bringing north winds and dropping temps from the upper 50s or lower 60s into the upper 40s to lower 50s.  As the front enters southeastern Oklahoma by midday to early afternoon a very limited chance of a strong to severe storm will arise for a small window of opportunity.   This will be well removed from northeastern Oklahoma.   The bulk of precipitation will end this afternoon for northern Oklahoma but data this morning continues to suggest some rain may ride up the back side of the system Wednesday morning to midday.  Our current forecast continues with this probability for a few hours Wednesday morning.  Another front will arrive Thursday and will with north winds.  A few showers may brush the area late Thursday night into Friday morning but will more than likely stay northeast of most of our area.

WARN Interactive Radar

The final front is this series will arrive either Saturday or Sunday bringing a noticeable cool down with highs potentially dropping back into the 40s.  This data has changed a few times during the past few days from a Saturday frontal passage to a Sunday morning front.   As the data continues to vary with this period of the forecast, I do anticipate additional changes will be possible for our weekend forecast.   But at this point, we're preparing for a relatively mild Saturday but a sharply colder Sunday.  The EURO has continued to suggest much colder air will arrive Sunday with each run.   We have made some downward adjustments to this period but our numbers are still higher than the suggestions from the EURO operational.

In summary, take the rain gear and a jacket or coat.  Wet and raw conditions are likely for a large portion of eastern Oklahoma for the first half of today.  Rainfall amounts from 2 to 4 inches will be possible with a few locally higher spots from 3 to 5 inches.   This may result in some flooding issues for some locations.  Streams, creeks and rivers may also see increasing flows into the next few days.

Thanks for reading the Tuesday morning weather discussion and blog.
