Stolen Purple Heart License Plate Returned, TPD Says

A suspected car thief is in jail after leading police on a short chase.

Officers tried to stop Mark Smith after finding him in a stolen car.

Once they caught him, they learned he also tried to break into a home.

They also discovered he had stolen a specialty license plate from a veteran who was awarded multiple Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart.

It's since been returned to its rightful owner.
