The Tulsa Police Department is investigating reports of a teacher sending inappropriate photos to multiple students at Edison Preparatory School.

TPD sex crimes Sergeant Jillian Phippen confirms her office received a report from Tulsa Public Schools Police today and it has begun an investigation.

Because Tulsa Police just received the report, detectives have not conducted any interviews yet, but that will be the next step.

Police haven't released the teacher's name.

Sources have told News On 6 the teacher was removed from the class last week.

Edison Principal Dixie Speer sent a letter to parents saying:

"Dear Edison Parents,

"Thank you for your continued partnership in ensuring that Edison continues to be a center for excellence in teaching and learning. While we all strive to live our core values of equity, character, excellence, team, and joy every day, there are some days that are more challenging than others. This, unfortunately, is one of those days. I am writing to make you aware of a news story that mentions an Edison teacher. The story references a Tulsa Police Department investigation into allegations that an Edison teacher may have sent inappropriate photos to our students.

"While we are not able to share information on confidential personnel issues and are not in a position to discuss law enforcement matters, I do want to make you aware of some important context. Any time we are made aware of concerns about possible inappropriate actions or situations in our district, we immediately begin investigating and work closely with any appropriate authorities who may need to be engaged.

"I am actively monitoring the situation on behalf of our school community and will certainly share any facts or updates that we are able to release publicly.

"This is an extraordinarily difficult time for our school community, and I recognize that this news presents an additional element. Please know that I am addressing the concerns and working with the Edison team to ensure that we are able to continue to keep our focus where it matters most – our students.

"Thank you for your continued partnership."
