Warm and breezy today with partly cloudy skies. Winds are breezy out of the south today around 10 to 20 mph. Temperatures will be near 60 by noon today with highs in the mid to upper 60s. Even though we had some nice rain Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, fire danger is still a concern today. It doesn't take long, for the top layer of vegetation and fuels to dry out. It's something to keep in mind today with stronger winds, warmer temperatures and still dry conditions.

The much-awaited cold front will move through this evening. Overnight, colder air will settle in and tomorrow morning temperatures will be in the 30s (closer to normal for a late December morning). Winds will be breezy and wind chill values will be in the low to mid 20s. Areas of drizzle will be possible but the main zone for rain will be in southeastern Oklahoma closer to the frontal boundary. The upper level features of the storm system will be moving in during the day on Friday and rain chances will expand northward. Once again, areas south of I-44 will have a better chance of showers from Friday afternoon through Friday night.

WARN Interactive Radar

With colder air continuing to settle in, there's a chance some locations will see cold rain transition into a wintry mix. Cold rain with sleet pellets could start to show up in the evening and eventually a few flurries mix in later Friday night. Atmospheric models are still in disagreement on the winter weather scenario. The majority of precipitation should fall as cold rain. If we do see a wintry mix, it would be in areas mainly north of I-40 and higher terrain locations. We're not expecting much in accumulation on winter precipitation but it will be important to watch bridges and overpasses for slick spots. Travel impacts should be confined to elevated surfaces Friday night.

We'll be dry and cold on Saturday. Wind chill in the morning will be in the teens. Highs near 40 for the afternoon. Another wave sliding by on Sunday (Christmas Eve) could produce some snow flurries. Accumulation amounts are not expected to be much, if any at all. It might be nice to leave Santa cookies and hot cocoa, it will be very cold Christmas Eve night! Wind chill in the single digits and teens when you wake up Christmas morning.
