National Signing Day Means Chance To Serve Country For BA Defensive Back

Broken Arrow safety Gary Mossop Jr. is just one of many recruits signing their letters of intent.

For him, he says it's about something way more than college football.

Dozens of family, friends and teammates, old and new, watched as he signed on to play for the Air Force Academy next season.

Mossop Jr. says so many recruits are looking at what school has the best gear or facilities, but he made his choice hoping to have a future in the Air Force.

"What happens when you're 40 and have a wife and two children? The gear and the gloves, they don't pay for that,” he said.

Gary is known as one of the best defensive backs in the state and had plenty of offers coming in this season.

Growing up in Oklahoma, he had some interest in OU and OSU, but he grew up in a military family and says representing his country means more.

"A lot of good things come out of being in the military and serving your country, and there's a whole lot of benefits to that but just the honor,” he said.

His father, Gary Mossop Sr. added, “It's like a hand in a glove what they stand for. Integrity, a lot of character, discipline, honoring authority, that's all a part of his bent."

Air Force plays its first game September 1 against Stony Brook.
