Cool Sunday Ahead

Rain is moving out, but stubborn clouds are sticking around on what’s shaping up to be a cool Green Country Sunday.

The measurable rain has wrapped up, but areas of drizzle are expected to hang around at least during the morning hours, and cloudy skies will keep our temperatures from moving very much today. We'll spend much of the day in the upper 40s with highs trying to creep into the low 50s later in the afternoon. Thankfully winds will be much lighter than yesterday, only on the order of 5 to 10 miles per hour.

Areas of fog will be possible to start off the work week, but above normal temperatures will quickly return! We’re expecting pleasantly mild weather with low 60s returning on Monday and into Tuesday!

We could certainly use more rain in Green Country, and another quick-moving storm system looks to bring another chance of that arrive Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. The track of this system will lead to the best chances coming across southeast Oklahoma where drought conditions are the most extreme, with lower chances from Tulsa to the north. Rain amounts will likely be under 1 inch again with this next system, but a few more good downpours are possible!

As we’ve been talking about for the better part of a week, a blast of arctic air is still expected to surge into eastern Oklahoma either late Thursday or early Friday. It’ll be quite the shock to the system as highs will struggle to get out of the 30s from Friday into the holiday weekend!

So how about those chances for a White Christmas? I wouldn’t bank on it, but here’s the latest. An upper-level disturbance is expected to swing into Oklahoma by Saturday the 23rd or potentially into Christmas Eve Sunday. If there is enough moisture available, we could see some *light* snow by Christmas Eve. However, there is a chance that the low-levels of the atmosphere may be just too dry for any measurable snow, so don’t get too excited just yet.

Forecast models are still trying to get a better handle on the pattern for Christmas Day, but right now the trends seem to be shifting away from snowfall on the Christmas Day holiday here in Green Country. The cold air is very likely however, so plan ahead for that! Right now it appears we’ll be hanging in the 30s on Christmas Day.
