The city of Pawhuska will be hosting the annual National Indian Taco Championship October 7 in downtown Pawhuska.
The event has 23 contestants registered to cook on site for judges to determine who makes the best Indian Taco.
So, what is an Indian Taco? An Indian taco is Native frybread topped with seasoned meat (usually ground beef), shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, shredded cheese and salsa. Each cook has their own recipe for their frybread and seasoned meats, and no two Indian Tacos are the same.
Admission to the championship is free, but Indian Tacos may be purchased from contestants.
The contest begins at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 7 and winners will be announced between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m.
The event will also have children's activities and a powwow.
