Sunday's storm system was much needed in the precipitation department with many locations picking up some beneficial rainfall. A few locations did also experience some strong to severe thunderstorms. Sunday night, a large complex of strong to severe storms formed across the southwestern part of Oklahoma and these leftover showers and storms will be approaching our area this morning. This activity is not expected to be severe and should weaken as they move into a region that has been worked over from Sunday's convection.
Another area of developing convection in the panhandle region this morning may also impact part of our area later today but most data support this batch lifting northeast into southeastern Kansas. Regardless, we’ll need to keep a mention for at least this first half of the day. We may be doing more “now- casting” for the next day or two as model data has not been overly helpful in the past few days.
Temps are relatively mild this morning with partly to mostly cloudy conditions. In some areas where clouds have thinned out, patchy fog is developing. Afternoon highs should be in the mid to upper 80s north and some lower 90s south this afternoon.
The front that briefly entered northern OK yesterday will slowly lift back northward as a warm front later Monday. The main upper air pattern is also expected to remain in place for the next 5 to 8 days with a broad-scale trough across the western U.S. and a southwest flow aloft moving across the southern and central plains. This may occasionally bring a few disturbances over the region that may initiate a few storms but no major storm system is expected until possibly late next weekend or better yet, early next week when a strong fall-front will arrive with a noticeable cool-down and more rain and storms.
Thanks for reading the Monday morning weather discussion and blog.
Have a super great day.
