Mayor G.T. Bynum and military leaders were on hand for the groundbreaking of the Air National Guard Mission Training Center.
The new center at the Tulsa Air National Guard Base is the first groundbreaking for a Vision Tulsa project since it was voted on in 2016.
The 20,000 square-foot facility will house four state-of-the-art flight simulators to provide realistic combat training for fighter pilots.
"Since 9/11, our combat pilots here have done a tremendous job of supporting the war fight overseas. And this allows them to remain at the top of their game here without having to travel to other states to do that training." Said Brigadier General Louis Wilham.
Vision Tulsa will provide about $9.5 million with an additional 25 million in federal funding.
Cockpits for the simulators will be made locally by Broken Arrow's L3 Technologies.
