Tulsa Voters To Pick GOP Candidate For Senate District 37 Seat

<p>It is election day across Oklahoma and Tulsa voters will decide on a Republican candidate to fill&nbsp;the state Senate District 37 seat. Seven GOP candidates are on the ballot to replace Republican state Senator Dan Newberry, who resigned over the summer for personal reasons. &nbsp;</p>

It is election day across Oklahoma and Tulsa voters will decide on a Republican candidate to fill the state Senate District 37 seat.

Seven GOP candidates are on the ballot to replace Republican state Senator Dan Newberry, who resigned over the summer for personal reasons.  Newberry was elected in 2008 and re-elected in 2012 and 2016.

The candidates are:

  • Brian M. Jackson
  • Grady Grant
  • Brian O'Hara
  • Phil Nollan
  • Rick Hardesty
  • Nicole Nixon
  • R. Jay McAtee

The winner will face Democrat Allison Ikley-Freeman in a November general election.

There are also several school bond issues on the ballot today.  

In Cherokee County, voters will decide on a $500,000 bond for construction at Keys Schools.  In Haskell County, there is a $15-million construction bond for Stigler Schools on the ballot.  And voters in LeFlore County will decide on a nearly $23-million construction bond for Poteau schools.

Polls are open until 7 p.m.
