Bartlesville head football coach, John McKee, announced he will resign as coach and teacher from the district.
In a statement, McKee said, “I have identified some personal challenges that I need to meet head on, and I will use this time away to work on becoming a better person, husband, father, teacher and coach.”

McKee gave thanks to the Bartlesville school district and community for supporting him.
He said he’s always stressed to his students and players that “they must take responsibility for their actions,” and now he has to do the same.
McKee said he hopes to teach and coach again if the right situation arises.

“It is with sadness and regret that I announce my resignation as the varsity head football coach and a classroom teacher from the Bartlesville Public School District, effective immediately.
“I have identified some personal challenges that I need to meet head on, and I will use this time away to work on becoming a better person, husband, father, teacher and coach.
“I would like to offer my sincere appreciation to the Bartlesville Public School District, Bartlesville High School, the Bartlesville community and the entire Bruin family for their tremendous support over the last eight years. You will always hold a special place in my heart.
“Over the course of my entire career in education and athletics, I have always stressed to the young people in my care that they must take responsibility for their actions. I must take responsibility for my actions as well.
“Going forward, my hope is that after I have taken the necessary time to work through my challenges, if the right situation arises, I will teach and coach again.
“As I do take this time away, I hope you will respect the privacy of myself and my family as I have no plans to make any more statements on this matter.”
