Why did the chicken cross the road? It's a question that has dozens of answers.
But one chicken has decided to roost at a downtown Coweta business.
Why did that chicken cross the road?
She showed up out of nowhere July 15, said Darryl DeMoss of Coweta Hardware and Lumber.
They call her Henryetta.
He said one day she just disappeared, and the ladies at the bank said they saw someone from the city with a net, so he called.
"I called the city and said, hey, do you have a chicken?" DeMoss said.
They brought Henryetta back.
Since then she spends her days patrolling the shop area.
Occasionally, she'll cross Sycamore Street to visit the folks at Gilbert Towing. But mostly she stays close to home.
At night she likes to roost up on a top shelf. She lays her eggs up there, too.
DeMoss' wife Anna put a couple of her eggs inside a little hen house they built for her. So far she's not interested.
What she does like to do is pick small ice cubes out of a cup and chase them across the floor.
Which brings us to that question — why did the chicken cross the road?
"To get to the hardware store," DeMoss said.
Now you know the real answer.
