New Design For Tulsa County Sheriff's Patrol Vehicles

The Tulsa County Sheriff's Office is rolling out new designs for their patrol cars. Part of the design features a tribute to all first responders.

Tulsa County Sheriff Vic Regalado said he hopes the new design will be here to stay for a long time.

“It's all part of a new beginning, a new direction. And it's a small part of it, and we wanted to let the public today know that they can look forward to seeing this design moving into the future," he said.

Regalado said the change has been in the works for months.

The design will feature the word “Sheriff” written in large letters, the American flag, the centennial badge and, of course, the thin blue line.

"It's a reminder for our deputies that, of the sacred oath they took in service to the citizens of Tulsa County, to protect it and serve them with their life if need be," Regalado said.

He said it's also a memorial to first responders in Tulsa County and around the United States.

On Tuesday, the Tulsa Fire Department said it was removing blue stripes from their trucks to remain neutral, but the sheriff insists this announcement has nothing to do with that decision.

"This is not a direct answer to what has happened over there, what has been said. This is about our design, but it was important," Regalado said.

The sheriff said the move should never be politicized and that it does not just represent law enforcement, but all first responders.

Regalado said the public will start seeing the new designs within the next month or two.
