Volunteers in north Tulsa came together to help fight hunger as part of the Food on the Move initiative.
Community groups like the Food Bank and the Tulsa Library partner with organizations like the Health Department and TCC to bring good quality food into food deserts.
Tuesday, they handed out meals and fresh produce to families, and the library handed out books.
"Everybody loves to come out here and get the food and just enjoy the time with their family and their friends. It's a great time," said volunteer Maria Cobb.
Food on the Move is at both Edu Rec and TCC's northeast campus once a month throughout the year.
Food on the Move was started by Taylor Hanson as a collaborative effort to fight food deserts in the Tulsa area.
The pay-as-you-can events started in 2014.
Food on the Move hopes to expand to other areas of town with time.
Most of the produce given out at the events are locally harvested from various farms and gardens, including Philbrook Museum's vegetable garden.
The next Food on the Move event is Thursday, June 8th, from Noon until 2 p.m. at the TCC Northeast Campus in the north parking lot.
Anyone is welcome.
Other community partners include the OSU Extension Office and St. John Medical Center.
