An elderly Grove man was killed in a two-vehicle wreck Tuesday afternoon, May 30 in Ottawa County. Oklahoma Highway Patrol said the fatality wreck took place just before 1 p.m. about six miles northeast of Wyandotte.
David W. Moffat, 88, was northbound on State Highway 10 when he failed to stop at the stop sign at the Highway 10C junction, a collision report states. Troopers said he drove into the path of a pickup driven by a Neosho man.
Moffat was taken to the Miami Baptist Hospital where he was pronounced dead of massive injuries. His passenger, 89-year-old Josefina N. Moffat, was taken to a Joplin hospital in critical condition with multiple injuries.
The other driver, 28-year-old Ethan E. Gray of Neosho, Missouri, was uninjured.
The investigating trooper said David Moffat was in apparently normal condition before the wreck, and the cause is listed as failure to stop at a stop sign.
Quapaw Tribe EMS and Wyandotte Fire Department assisted OHP.
