Junior Paige Parker tossed a shutout as the No. 10 seeded Sooners moved one step closer to returning to the Women's College World Series after defeating No. 7 Auburn, 4-0, on Friday.
OU (55-9) needs just one more victory to advance to the WCWS for the 11th time in program history. The Sooners will be the home team against Auburn (49-11) in Saturday's game two, set for noon CT on ESPN.
Parker recorded 14 strikeouts in the complete-game effort, setting an OU record for strikeouts in a Super Regional game. The junior allowed just four hits and walked three to pick up her 13th straight win in the postseason dating back to last season.
The Sooners' offense found their groove by scoring pair of runs in the sixth and seventh innings, respectively. Nicole Pendley's RBI double put OU on the board in the sixth. Macey Hatfield followed with an infield single to score Fale Aviu. OU tacked on two more runs in its final at-bat with RBI singles from Shay Knighten and Sydney Romero.
Knighten was 2-for-3 with a RBI and run scored, while Nicole Mendes finished 2-for-3 with a pair of singles.
