ORU Looks Ahead To Postseason After Win Over OSU

When it comes to postseason baseball, any coach will tell you the two most important things are pitching and defense. 

The Golden Eagles dominated those roles against Oklahoma State and looked every bit a team poised to make a deep postseason run.

ORU did just enough last night to knock off Oklahoma State 4-1, keeping the pokes winless at J.L. Johnson since 1995.

The Golden Eagles left just five on base and played an errorless game, all while holding the Cowboys to just two hits, just the kind of game the postseason requires.

“I think when you look at a regional tournament, a conference tournament, even in Omaha right now, that's the kind of game you have to play,” Golden Eagles head coach Ryan Folmar. “You have to pitch, you have to play solid defense, and you have to be good in your situational offense and get some key hits with runners in scoring position."

The postseason is the goal for both teams, but the latest projections from both DI Baseball and Baseball America have the Cowboys missing the field entirely.

But don't tell that to Folmar.

"That's a regional-type club, and we're going to have to beat those clubs moving forward,” he said.

Catcher Matt Whatley added, "We feel good. The chemistry's good. We've played together the past two years, so we're just looking forward to each and every game and continuing to play as best as possible."

OSU head coach Josh Holliday wasn’t too pleased after the game, refusing comment, saying, quote, “I'm good.”

These two teams meet again on this field in two weeks, and if the postseason cards fall the right way, it could be a couple more times after that.
