One of Frisco's top players, catcher Jose Trevino, sat out the series after being hit on the hand by a pitch a few days ago. Despite that, the former ORU standout's pro career is off to a great start.

"I think everyone stays on Tulsa time, so it's nice to be back,” said Trevino.

That ride back to Tulsa has been a fast one. After leading the High Desert Mavericks to a Cal League title in Single-A, Trevino was named the Texas Rangers Minor League Player of the Year.

"It was good, but then again it was all last season. It all starts fresh again,” said Trevino. “That's all I ever say, is try to do it again.  There's more work to be done."

That work included extensive time in the Rangers Spring training camp, where he hit .250 with a home run in nine games.  He even had a chance to catch a game with one his former teammates Chi Chi Gonzalez.

"It was cool to see him on the mound,” he said. “Different uniforms, but it felt natural."

Trevino was even part of a play that involved three former Oral Roberts players, throwing to Doug Bernier to catch Tyler Saladino trying to steal second.

"It didn't click until it actully happened,” he recalled. “I think Dougie actually came up to me and was like, ‘Dude, you just threw out Saladino.’ He did come up to the plate and was like, ‘Good throw man.’ I was like, ‘Thanks.’"

Trevino hopes to see those guys again in a Rangers uniform, but for now he's focused on leading Frisco to a Texas League title.

"If you're going to be here, why not win another one,” he stated. “You can't really teach winning. You can only have a certain amount of guys come up and win. And the chemistry in that clubhouse is always really good."
