5:30 p.m. UPDATE: City and state highway officials say all lanes of the bridge are now open.
5:45 p.m. UPDATE: Kasey St.John of the City of Sand Springs said both northbound lanes are open, and southbound traffic is still down to one lane. A contractor is coming out to give crews an estimate on when the repairs will be complete.
A broken water main made a mess on the Highway 97 bridge over the Arkansas River in Sand Springs Monday.
The break was near the center of the bridge and sent water shooting into the air over traffic in both directions.
Because temperatures are well below freezing, the water created a huge hazard for vehicles in the area. As a result, the city of Sand Springs says it limited traffic to one lane in each direction until the water was under control.
It doesn't know how big the pipe is, but a repair crew will fix it as soon as possible.
