The first system of several this week is currently moving across northeastern and eastern OK this morning.   A few sprinkles or small showers may occur across the east-central or western Arkansas area before sunrise but most, if not all locations, will remain dry yet chilly.   Temps will be around 5 to 12 degrees colder today with highs in the upper 30s and lower 40s along the OK-Kansas state line area.

The Tulsa metro will experience a high near 40-44 along with north winds from 10 to 15 mph while some locations across southern OK may see highs slightly warmer.  Much colder air (shallow arctic air) will arrive later tonight and stick around through Thursday night before eroding Friday.   Some short term-data suggest a small window tomorrow morning for some light precip, probably a sprinkle-sleet pellet mixture, west of the metro for a few hours.   This chance will remain very low.

A very strong front is likely to move back into the area Saturday morning with frigid conditions remaining through the entire weekend.   There will be a small mention for some wintry precipitation Saturday evening as the cold air continues to pile into the area.

The upper air flow will be favorable for more cold air intrusions across the nation for the next 7 to 14 days.   Some locations across the upper Midwest into the Great Lakes will see frigid weather along with wintry weather potential.   Our forecast will have plenty of cold air this week with even more cold air potential for next week, possibly into the Christmas weekend.

The surge of colder air that arrives tonight will stick around for a few days with temperatures Wednesday and Thursday noticeably colder with morning lows in the 20s and highs in the upper 30s both days.   Some clouds will be likely at times along with north winds.

Thursday night into Friday the next upper level disturbance of interest will begin moving across the western half of the nation.   A strong surface low will quickly develop across southeastern Colorado Thursday night or Friday morning with a rapid drop in pressure.  This will create strong south winds Friday from 20 to 35 mph along with temperatures quickly moving from near freezing Friday morning into the lower or mid-50s Friday afternoon across the northeastern quadrant of the state with some locations across southeastern OK into the lower 60s.

Later Friday night into sometime Saturday morning the leading edge of a very strong cold front will plow across the state with temps dropping from the 40s (northern OK) into the 30s.  Locations across southeastern OK will be warmer Saturday morning and could support a few storms as the cold front moves across this part of the state.

WARN Interactive Radar

Any moisture still remaining across eastern OK by midday into the evening would transition from showers to sleet and then possibly some snow s.   At this time, no significant accumulation is expected but the cold air will defiantly stick around into the entire weekend.   Temps would level off in the 30s Saturday and start in the teens Sunday near the metro during the morning with highs in the upper 20s or lower 30s Sunday.   It would be colder in the outlying areas where some single digits for lows would be possible.   Brrr.

Thanks for reading the Tuesday morning weather discussion and blog.
Have a super great day
