An area photographer just returned from his second trip to Cuba.
Doug Henderson is sharing his photographs with News On 6, along with impressions of the country closed to most of us for more than 50 years.
"One of my gigs is taking photographers places they would like to shoot that they don't have experience in that sort of place," he said.
One of those places is Cuba, where the door is now open for travel - regular flights began this week.
"If that door doesn't close, a lot of people would like to go see Cuba," Henderson said.
There is a lot to see, but he admitted it's a bit like you stepped back in time, especially when it comes to cars.
It's like a rolling antique car show everywhere you look – with a lot of 50's model cars still being driven, with a few modifications.
"Imagine you had a car in the 50s and the parts store has been closed ever since; boy, there is baling wire and there is duct tape," Henderson said.
All kinds of improvised maintenance everywhere; it's a choice of no car, or keeping the old one running somehow.
He said the people are open and friendly and curious about America. He also said they grow the best tobacco in the world and still farm using oxen in many places.
It’s a place Henderson would recommend to check out if you're looking for something different.
"If you want an adventure, if you want to see something that is amazing, that is different and off the map, and unique and very photogenic, yes," he said.
