FBI Director James Comey wrote in a letter to Congressional leaders Sunday that the agency has not found anything new to contradict its previous evaluation of Hillary Clinton’s emails.
“Based on our review, we have not changed our conclusions that we expressed in July with respect to Secretary Clinton,” Comey wrote Sunday.
This summer, the FBI announced that after a full investigation into Clinton’s use of a private email server, it was not recommending criminal charges against her.
However, in a surprise move, Comey wrote to Congress on Oct. 28 -- barely ten days before Election Day -- to say that the agency was taking steps to review new emails relating to Clinton’s case. That announcement upended the 2016 race between Clinton and GOP nominee Donald Trump.
“Since my letter, the FBI investigative team has been working around the clock to process and review a large volume of emails from a device obtained in connection with an unrelated criminal investigation,” Comey wrote on Sunday.
“During that process we reviewed all of the communications that were to or from Hillary Clinton while she was Secretary of State … I am very grateful to the professionals at the FBI for doing an extraordinary amount of high-quality work in a short period of time.”
