What started as a confrontation between a man and some roofers quickly led to a shooting then a police standoff.
Witnesses heard police giving commands through a loudspeaker before the suspect was taken into custody.
Neighbor Ethan Dover said, "Come out with your hands up. Come out peacefully, we don't want to have to hurt you."
That's what he witnessed as police tried to get 29-year-old Marco Hernandez, hiding in a house, to come out.
Police say it began in the 1200 block of West 7th in Okmulgee when Hernandez argued with some roofers.
Chief Joe Prentice with Okmulgee police said, "Had confronted them, pointed a handgun at them, and then left the scene. A short time later he returned to the scene and fired some shots at them."
Police say Hernandez ran off, but officers tracked him to a home at the corner of 4th and Taft around 3:00 p.m.
Dover said, "They ordered myself, my niece and my nephew and my wife, ordered all of us to get inside, stay away from the windows."
"We called him out over the loudspeaker numerous times, called him by phone," Prentice said.
Police with shields and long guns took up positions until Hernandez came out nearly two hours later.
"They ordered him down on the ground, he knelt down, put his hands behind his head, laid down on the ground and officer apprehended him," said Dover.
The neighbor said he couldn't be happier with police whom, he said. protected neighbors and kids, diverting a school bus caught in the area at the beginning of the standoff.
Thankfully, no one was hurt at the shooting scene or the police standoff.
Hernandez was booked into the Okmulgee County Jail on a complaint of shooting with intent to kill. More charges could be coming.
