A man's body was discovered in Mohawk Park Wednesday evening with several gunshot wounds.
Shortly after 5:00 p.m., police were called after some people tried to check on a man who seemed unresponsive. When they got closer, they learned he was dead.
Police said the body was discovered by passersby and animal control. The body was next to a nearby road.
Detective Jay White said, "Apparently some passerby had came across him and found him on the side of the road, and that struck them as strange, so they went up to check on him and they discovered that he was deceased,"
Police rushed to Mohawk Park, and it wasn't long before homicide detectives arrived on scene.
"We were assigned to come out here in reference to a body that had been discovered just inside Mohawk Park," White said.
Police said witnesses heard 12 to 13 gunshots. Officers said the man was shot multiple times at the scene.
News On 6 watched as the medical examiner arrived and investigators used flashlights to search the area, documenting it with pictures.
As night fell, police kept the area closed off and said they will work the case throughout the night.
White said, "They've got it sealed off. There is a lot of work to be done by the crime scene unit and so forth."
Police have not released the identity of the man but believe he's a Hispanic male in his 20s.
