Police say a 34-year-old Owasso woman died after being hit by a pickup late Tuesday on Highway 11 just south of Pine.
Officers say at around 10:15 p.m., Amanda Dooley was riding in a car when she became upset with some messages on her cell phone and threw it out a window. The driver, Travis Casey, of Tulsa says he pulled over and asked her to find it.
Casey told police Dooley got out and began running westbound in the eastbound lanes of Highway 11. Police say the driver of an eastbound pickup swerved to avoid Dooley, but still struck her.
EMSA took Amanda Dooley to a Tulsa hospital, where she died about 30 minutes later.
Tulsa Police say trying to retrieve something in the middle of a highway is not a good idea.
"It takes about a quarter of a second for you to realize you need to stop, another quarter of a second for your mind to tell your foot to stop so you're looking at a second and a half from the time you realize you need to stop to the time you're applying the brakes," said Tulsa Police Sgt. Steve Stoltz
Police say no one was arrested or given a ticket at the scene.
