Monday is the first day of school for a couple of Tulsa's largest districts - including Union and Tulsa Public. Superintendent Dr. Deborah Gist started out her day rallying the troops at Tulsa's transportation facility as bus drivers got ready for their first runs of the new school year.

Gist then launched on visits of eight school sites, most of them elementary schools. The superintendent has a very busy schedule greeting young students and their families.

Despite the state's revenue failure, and TPS eliminating several positions, Tulsa Public Schools is starting the school year with a certified teacher in every classroom.

It's the second year in a row all their teaching positions are filled.
