Police say they had to use pepper balls to arrest an intoxicated homeless man early Thursday after he caused a disturbance outside a Tulsa convenience store.

Officers were called to the QuikTrip in the 2700 block of East Admiral Place several times before midnight concerning Raymond Brewer, 53, who they said was begging and being belligerent to customers.

During the second encounter, police said Brewer ran from officers to a nearby building holding a large stick. They said Brewer climbed up some outside stairs, while waving the stick and yelling obscenities at the officers.

After coming down, police said Raymond Brewer still refused to drop the stick, so officers fired pepper balls at him. They said Brewer then ran off, but was located a short time later hiding behind a library building on South Lewis.

Raymond Brewer was booked into the Tulsa County jail on complaints of public intoxication and resisting arrest.
