Tulsa Police made an arrest in the double murder at Chamberlain Park earlier this week.

Police questioned and arrested Jacky Cardale Mayfield, 27. He's facing two counts of first-degree murder.

According to Sergeant Dave Walker, they received information Mayfield was involved in the double murder of Meshawna Jones and her friend Markey Goff.

Walker said detectives learned Mayfield was seen in a stolen Ford Focus confirmed stolen from Osage County on May 22, 2016.

According to Walker, they continued to receive tips that led them to Mayfield at the Comanche Park Apartments. He was originally arrested for unrelated misdemeanor warrants and questioned about the double murder.

Records show Mayfield was released last September after serving nine years of a 10-year sentence for assault with a deadly weapon. In February he was charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm and trying to pawn something he didn’t own.

Jones, 32, and Goff, 26, were found shot to death inside an SUV at Chamberlain Park Tuesday morning.

Police say a person jogging through Chamberlain Park in the 4900 block of North Frankfort Tuesday morning saw the 5-year-old at the playground. The child told the jogger his mom was hurt and took the jogger to the SUV.

That person called police, who then found a 1-year-old boy unhurt in the SUV.

Walker said the fact that children were present makes the murders especially despicable.

"This is not an ordinary murder, if that can even be said. This is one where there's a 5-year-old and a baby in a car seat, and they didn't care. So if you don't care about that, you're not going to care about the next person down the road," he said.

Investigators believe the shooting happened around midnight Monday night.
