Sheriff: Tulsa Jail Following Protocol Notifying Family About Injuries

Tulsa County Sheriff Vic Regalado says the jail is following protocol when it comes to notifying family about injuries.

A Tulsa woman said her brother, an inmate, got badly hurt at the Tulsa County Jail sometime last week. He suffered a brain hemorrhage and cannot walk on his own.

She said the family is devastated that no one will tell them what happened, but the sheriff said the jail is following protocol.

"We have to abide by HIPAA laws, and we can't discuss an inmate's medical prognosis or medical issues," he said.

Protocol says the jail will only notify family if the inmate has died or is near death.
