Muskogee Police Help Man Realize Life-Long Dream

Police routinely make arrests, but they don't often get the chance to make dreams come true. But that’s exactly what the Muskogee Police Department got to do Wednesday.

Muskogee Police Chief Rex Eskridge gave John Barnes a little piece of a life-long dream.

John has lived with his grandparents since he was a baby and he's always wanted to be a police officer, but he has Asperger's Syndrome, so the chances of that are not good.

“He’s wanted to do this for a long time,” said Barnes’ grandma, Cindy O’Keefe.

So, she called the department and talked to Officer Lincoln Anderson, who had a plan.

"Anything worth doing is worth overdoing," he said.

Wednesday, the Special Operations Team picked John up and brought him out to the range where he got patches, a certificate, and told him he could try out some weapons.

"I hope to be very accurate," John said.

He got four shots with a sniper rifle, and he did pretty well.

"You've got two rounds here, and you put one here and one here. That's some fantastic shooting sir," they said.

There were more targets, a flash-bang grenade and, of course, the swearing in as a junior officer with Muskogee Police.
